I am a politicized somatic psychotherapist. I draw on somatic and embodiment-oriented modalities, relational psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness-based approaches to therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, ecotherapy, interpersonal neurobiology, and anti-oppression work. My practice is also informed by Black radical, Afro-futurist, feminist, queer, and genderqueer liberatory practices, wisdoms, and philosophies, and ongoing and ever-evolving movements for social justice. As a therapist, I am warm and kind, active and engaged, open and transparent, collaborative and connected. I bring compassion, empathy, openmindedness, skill, sensitivity, and profound respect for every human being to the work that I do.
I believe that when people are integrated and connected with all parts of themselves and deeply rooted in self-compassion, they feel more alive and more grounded, and they make choices that lead to greater health, well-being, engagement, and vitality. I also recognize that many of the challenges individuals face stem from the conditions in which we all live. I believe that when we can see our struggles in the context of the greater forces that are acting upon us, we can better discern what aspects of our experiences have been shaped by the white supremacist, capitalist, ableist, fat-phobic, cissexist hetero-patriarchy which governs so much of our lives. It is vital that we look at the challenges we are facing, not as individual mental illness, nor as signs of any personal ill-health or dysfunction, but as symptoms of a collective malady that is not of our making. This can help us develop more compassion ourselves for what we have survived and see the ways we have shaped ourselves around our circumstances as creative, clever, brilliant, and deeply wise. We can develop tools and resources that serve us ever better. We can explore how to heal from the impacts of systemic oppression, and learn how to navigate those systems with more empowerment, creativity, and dignity. We can better discern what is our own personal work for healing and liberation, and what is collective work that requires collective solutions for the healing and liberation of us all. I am happy to partner with you on your journey of healing, growth, and liberation.
